Baseball Field Lighting Upgrade | LED Stadium Lights on 55 FT Wood Poles for Infield Visibility
This project showcases a targeted lighting enhancement for a community baseball field where the customer wanted to improve infield illumination without replacing the entire system. The existing layout used twelve 300W area flood lights mounted on 55-foot wooden poles, providing minimal visibility for evening practices and games.
Infield Lighting Design
To solve the issue, our lighting engineers designed a simple yet highly effective upgrade by adding two high-powered sports lights with precise beam control. Each 800W stadium-grade fixture featured a 30-degree optic and was mounted at 45 feet using a bullhorn and sleeve bracket on existing wood poles.
Fixture Type: 800W LED Stadium Lights
Fixture Quantity: 12
Accessories: (2) MaxLite Bullhorns (PL-CB190-13), (2) Wood Pole Sleeves
Pole Type: 55 FT Wood Poles
Mounting Height: 55 feet
Beam Optic: Wide Distribution (Area Type)
Lighting Zones Covered: Outfield and general practice area
Average Infield Illuminance: 3.0 footcandles
Maximum Illuminance: 6.0 footcandles
Uniformity Ratio: 1.8
Design Intent: General practice-level lighting coverage
Before Upgrade:
- 12x 300W Area Lights at 55 ft
- Infield Avg Illumination: 3.0 footcandles
- Max: 6.0 fc
- Uniformity Ratio: 1.8
After Upgrade:
- +2x 600W Sports Lights (30° Optic @ 45 ft)
- Infield Avg Illumination: 7.1 footcandles
- Max: 13.0 fc
- Uniformity Ratio: 2.3
- Improvement: 137% increase in average infield illumination
Conclusion
This baseball field lighting project demonstrates how a modest upgrade of just two targeted sports lights can significantly enhance visibility in critical zones like the infield. The result is a well-lit play area that meets recreational standards, extending usability into the evening without the need for a complete system overhaul.
