Outdoor Pickleball Court Lighting Case Study
Outdoor Pickleball Court Lighting refers to providing suitable lighting conditions for outdoor pickleball courts to ensure the smooth progress of competitions and training while providing a good visual experience. The lighting system needs to meet specific standards and requirements to ensure the safety and comfort of athletes, referees and spectators.
This case study highlights an outdoor pickleball court lighting project designed to provide optimal illumination while minimizing the number of fixtures required. The court, located in an urban setting, required a lighting solution that enhanced visibility for players while maintaining an inviting atmosphere for spectators.
Outdoor Pickleball Court Lighting Design
To achieve superior illumination, eight (8) 300W LED Area Lights equipped with slipfitter mounts were strategically installed to evenly light the courts. These high-output 42,000-lumen fixtures ensured excellent brightness, uniform distribution, and minimal glare—enhancing both playability and visibility for players and spectators alike.
Fixture Type: 400W LED Area Lights
Quantity: 8 fixtures
Accessories: Slipfitter Mount (8 PCS)
Fixture Certifications: UL
Project Results & Customer Feedback
The installation exceeded expectations, providing exceptional visibility with fewer fixtures than initially planned. The powerful yet energy-efficient LED lights enhanced the playing experience while maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the venue. The attached images showcase the effective lighting distribution and the vibrant court ambiance during evening play.
“The lights could not have worked out better! Take a look at the photos, we used way less lights than we expected and haven’t heard a complaint yet.
Main standards and requirements for outdoor pickleball court lighting
Illuminance requirements: Illuminance standards vary according to the level of the event. For example, the vertical illuminance of amateur competitions must reach 200 lx, while the vertical illuminance of international top competitions must be no less than 2000 lx.
Uniformity requirements: The uniformity of lighting is an important indicator of light quality. FIFA stipulates that the ratio of the illuminance at any point in the venue to the average illuminance should not be less than 0.7 to ensure the visual comfort of athletes and spectators.
Glare control: Excessive glare will affect the athlete's sight and the effect of TV broadcasts. Therefore, the lighting design needs to strictly control the installation height and angle of the lamps to avoid direct light entering the human eye.
Color rendering and color temperature: The color rendering index (CRI) should be greater than 80, and the color temperature is usually selected from 4000K-6000K to restore the true color effect and meet the needs of high-definition broadcasts.
